Luby's!

Last weekend we started the day at the pool, which is always a good idea before the temperature gets to 101 degrees! Well, it wasn't that hot last weekend, but we hit that record yesterday. We were glad to see Richard and we all went to Luby's in the afternoon for some cafeteria food. I was a bit concerned that by mid-afternoon (it was 3:00 p.m.) that we'd be stuck in that after-lunch-before-dinner soggy cafeteria food vortex that is common with some cafeteria chains. I should have known better - this was Luby's, the best cafeteria in town! I had the veggie platter, and I'm here to tell you - the broccoli was crisp and tasty, the salad fresh with a tangy Italian sauce, and the mashed potatoes (with brown gravy) were great! It could have been 11:30 for all I knew.

Mother's Day '08

Last weekend we went swimming at Barton Springs
and then had breakfast at Ginny and Jack's for Mother's Day. I had a lot of watermelon. It's getting to be watermelon time.
I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day!

Cold Salads on a Hot Day

We're still having fun with Nelle in town. Last night we had dinner at Mom's and had a variety of salads. There was the bean, bean, and bean salad, the bean salad with the corn and mini-peas and celery, and the main course was chicken salad. One very strange thing that Mom pointed out was the fact that there were some mini-peas in the three-bean salad. I'm not sure if that was an accident or deliberate and it threw me off for a moment, but it was all very good.
It's been hot in Austin lately, so a dinner with all the cool salads was exceptional. No one makes those salads as good as Mom, that's for sure.

Nelle!

Nelle is in town for a convention so last night we went to The Belmont, an ultra-cool cocktail lounge and restaurant where the hipsters hang out. I had never been there before. Is it cool or uncool to wear a tee-shirt these days? If you have to ask, I think that means you're not a hipster. What ever the case, we had some nice appetizers and shared a couple of desserts on the roof while we watched the Texas sunset and grooved to that crazy jazz ensemble. Dig that horn, Miles!

After Pool Before Work Breakfast

Last weekend I had to work both Saturday and Sunday, but that's what being a tireless dedicated public servant is all about. That and getting "comp" time to be used for future vacations! I still had time for a quick swim at Barton Springs and breakfast at Mom's, which was delicious. Especially the grapefruit sections - they were especially good.
