Mother's Day Daily Double

Sunday was Mother's Day, and we celebrated with breakfast at Mom's (after a swim at Barton Springs, of course), and a big feast at Ginny and Jacks. We had pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, corn, broccoli, stuffing, and bread. It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We enjoyed the company of Gloria and Marty, Ouida, John, Mom, Ginny and Jack, and of course me and April. Look at that meal - I had to have TWO plates, and followed that up with TWO kinds of cake, pineapple upside down and chocolate. I could get used to eating like that!

Sometimes "the favorite" pays

I don't mean that I'm Mom's favorite - that's not what I'm suggesting, but this morning I took Mom and April out for breakfast at Joe's Bakery with some of my winnings from yesterday's Kentucky Derby. The post-time favorite Street Sense paid $11.80 to win, the highest-priced winning favorite in Derby history. As always is the case when I am lucky enough to pick the winner, I didn't bet enough on Street Sense, but he was my pick, and I also had the 8 horse in my action so I won an exacta. The 7-8-2-5 superfecta, which in hindsight was an easy pick, paid $29,046.40. I should have had that twice...
